Birth Date: 6/6/70
Home Town: White Bear Township, MN
Fun Comments: Born and raised in North
Dakota.  An avid hunter, fisherman, and
general outdoor and sports enthusiast, my
true love (next to my wife Tricia of course) is
walleye fishing.  A close second is Fighting
Sioux Hockey.  We rarely miss watching a
game.  I chase walleyes throughout the open
water season and have fished competitively
for several years.  The highlight of my career
thus far was earning the FLW Walleye
League Angler of the Year title in Minnesota in
2006.  I used to ice fish exclusively for ole
marble eyes as well with only the occasional
forays up to Devils Lake to chase perch or to
the Detroit Lakes area to chase crappies .  I
used to consider sunfish suited best for
children, not a fish for “serious” angler.  After
meeting Matt Johnson and learning of the
UPL I was able to convince my neighbor
Patrick to enter two tournaments in 2009 as a
change of pace to walleyes.  I didn’t even
know what a strike indicator was that first
season, so it was a bit of a learning
experience for me.  I was using my deep
water perch rigs, and although it really
attracted a lot of fish I probably missed 90
percent of the bites.  We did well though
finishing second in our first tournament, mere
ounces out of first place.  I was instantly
“hooked.”  Although chasing walleyes will
always be first in my heart, I now really look
forward to chasing blue gills and crappies
through the ice as well.  I have learned it’s
more than mere “child’s play” to find and
catch these large fish consistently in the
Metro area.  Overall, fishing the UPL has
really been fun and challenging and is now
one of the things I really look forward to each
year.  There are some really good teams
fishing these events, so you need to really
work hard and be innovative to stay ahead of
the curve.  It is a great bunch of guys, and I
really enjoy the competition.  Fishing the UPL
has helped me become a much better overall
angler.

Patrick Ross:
Birth Date: 36 years old
Home Town: Oakdale, MN
Fun Comments: I am 35, married to Melinda
with one daugter Olivia who is 4.    We live in
Oakdale, MN.   I have been ice fishing since I
was kid, but grew up ice fishing Clear Lake, Ia
and the backwaters of the Mississippi as I was
born and raised in Greene, Iowa.  My first
fishing experiences in Minnesota were fishing
and camping in the Mankato area.   Most of my
fishing in my teenage years was done on
Madison lake or the Mississippi & Shell Rock
Rivers.    My wife and I moved to Minnesota in
2000 and have been learning all about the
lakes around the twin cities and north since.    I
ice and open water fish so I am on the water
year round.   I really enjoy fishing the
Mississippi river for walleyes the most, but do
chase walleyes in the St Croix and Mille lacs
as well.   When I go ice fishing I usually target
sunfish and crappies in the North metro
area.    I am employed by in the
telecommunications field.   I also enjoy sports
such as baseball, football, hockey and
basketball.
